Twenty-plus years under Ford Rangers — from 2.3L Lima four-bangers to the modern EcoBoost P375.
Wrenching on Rangers since 2004 · 22+ years
I've been under Ford Rangers since my first one — a hand-me-down 1998 XLT with the 2.5L Lima and a five-speed that taught me more about clutch cables than I ever wanted to know. Two decades later I've owned or wrenched on damn near every generation, from the Twin-Traction-Beam classics through the sheet-metal-heavy 2000s trucks to the modern 2019-up P375 with the 2.3L EcoBoost and the 10-speed.
The Ranger has always been the thinking owner's truck — small enough to be honest, tough enough to earn it, and cheap enough that fixing it yourself makes sense. That's who I write for. Not the guy chasing a build-thread trophy, but the owner in the driveway on a Saturday who wants the part that actually fits, actually lasts, and doesn't cost double for a name on the box.
Every guide on this site comes from that bias. I care about fitment first — which years, which cab, which drivetrain — because the fastest way to waste a weekend is ordering a part that was cast for the other truck. I care about what fails first, because knowing the weak points is half of keeping a compact truck on the road past 200k. And I'll always tell you when the used-and-OEM route on eBay Motors beats buying new, because on a discontinued classic-Ranger part it usually does.
What you won't get from me is a fake price or a padded ranking. Current pricing lives on Amazon or the seller's eBay listing where it belongs — I don't cache dollar figures to make a page look busy, and nobody pays to move up a list. If a pick is here, it's because I'd bolt it to my own truck.
